It bestows special protection on the weak and vulnerable and makes generous provision for those in need. It proclaims human duties as well as human rights. It cherishes virtue.

2006 Ohio Abortion Statistics. The Ohio Department of Health has released its report of abortion statistics for 2006.

Some highlights:

A total of 32,936 induced pregnancy terminations were reported in Ohio for 2006, including 30,809 for Ohio

residents (93.5%). The number of total abortions performed in Ohio has seen a decline annually since 2000.
Approximately one eighth of women who obtained abortions were under 20 years of age, with another third

between the ages of 20-24 years of age. The age distribution of women obtaining abortions has

remained fairly unchanged since 1994. Approximately 81% of women who obtained an abortion were unmarried.

The marital status distribution has remained constant since 1994.
In 2006, approximately 24% of women obtaining abortions in Ohio reported no prior pregnancies.
All reported abortions were obtained in eight major metropolitan areas of Ohio. 32,869 abortions were provided in licensed ambulatory surgical facilities, and 67 were provided in hospitals (less than 1%).

CULTURE OF LIFE:

This fall, Columbus Right to Life will be organizing several exciting events and programs to promote community awareness of the need to establish a culture of life - details will be coming soon via e-mail and in our newsletter!

In order to spread the word about these exciting developments, we will be visiting areas churches to set up informational tables in the near future. Several churches have already scheduled their dates, and we look forward to the opportunity to work with them. If your church would be able to provide a small space for us to make our materials available after your services for one weekend, please contact our office at columbusrtl@yahoo.com so we can schedule a date. Additionally, we are in need of volunteers to assist with these outreach efforts - no experience is necessary, and training will be provided. If you might be available to assist with this critical effort, which will require only a few hours of your time on a weekend, please contact the office at columbusrtl@yahoo.com .
